Ear, nose and throat examination

ENT is a Focus Area in Our Practice — Why?

Treating ear, nose and throat conditions takes up a large share of work in any general small animal practice. Because this field has such varied underlying causes, it's a particular challenge for the treating vet — and, for you as the pet owner, it's often associated with chronic, frustrating courses of illness.

This experience is why ENT has become a focus area in our practice: through a thorough analysis of the underlying cause, the use of specialised equipment, appropriate diagnostics and medication, we achieve better chances of a cure.

The practice offers the following services:

  • A thorough analysis of how the condition has developed, to identify its underlying cause as well as any contributing, additional and perpetuating factors
  • Examination of the upper airways and nasal cavities with endoscopes
  • Detailed diagnostics of the ear canals using video otoscopes — optical instruments that transmit a video image of the ear canal and eardrum to a monitor. You're welcome to watch along on two screens, and findings can also be recorded digitally.
  • Smears examined under the microscope (cells, bacteria and fungi); swab samples taken for bacterial and fungal testing. For this, the practice has a dedicated camera microscope and monitor for digital imaging and storage of smear images.
  • Use of ENT suction-irrigation devices for thorough cleaning of the ear canals under video control
  • ENT surgery using a diode laser

  • Please try to book an appointment, so that enough time is available
  • Write down a chronological description of how the condition has developed
  • Bring along all examination findings and information about medications and therapies already used
  • Especially for upper airway conditions, take smartphone videos of the symptoms
  • Send us your written report and findings by email or fax ahead of your visit, to help us prepare
